In advance of the upcoming AVMA 2015 conference and a drilled-down look at search engine optimization, here’s a small sampler of the some of SEO tips we’ll talk about in Saturday’s lecture (view program, page 21).
AVMA 2015 SEO Tip #1: Be YOU
Generic website? Rehashed blog content? Someone else’s take on intestinal parasites? What’s the point? Prospective clients don’t want a placeholder for care, service and brains; they want the real deal. They want YOU! Take time to think about who you are; write about it, and photograph it. During Saturday’s lecture, we’ll cover the behind-the-scenes particulars of what to do with your writing and image content to give its visibility a goose.
AVMA 2015 SEO Tip #2: PLAN
The smartest veterinary practice marketers are starting optimization efforts with a plan of what they are trying to accomplish. Think it’s obvious? Think again! Do the pages, blog posts and structure of your website drive a specific outcome? What is the outcome that you want to achieve? Is your website merely demonstrative of your credibility or is specifically designed to get your phone to ring? Think about a specific outcome you want to achieve with your content and you’ll see it pop.

AVMA 2015 SEO Tip #3: Imbedding Keywords Won’t Cut It
Okay, you want to optimize your content, but what if no one is searching for the things you’re talking about? All the optimization in the world won’t fix that. Build content that describes your services in the way that the public thinks and searches for such topics. Use Google’s free Keyword Ad Planner and assemble a list of keywords that best describes what you do, and then build content around those words and phrases. Be wary of merely imbedding keywords into content. Google’s latest screening tools are onto that scheme and will demote your site for trying to play tricks with the savviest of search engines.
AVMA 2015 SEO Tip #4: MEASURE
Every good manager knows that measuring success is vital to improvement. Use powerful, free tools like Google Analytics to organize your online goals and to track the success of your efforts. Check out the helpful Analytics Academy that is chock-a-block with helpful information on how you can become an SEO expert.
I look forward to seeing your just-awake faces at 7am this Saturday at the AVMA 2015 Convention in Boston. Hey, look on the bright side…how long can the Starbucks line be at 645am? 🙂
