HTC has three offices, one in Indianapolis (where Brenda is based), one in NYC (where Bash is based) and one in a little town just off the Susquehanna River, called Wyalusing. Though the other places boast restaurants, speedways and parking tickets, neither top the fresh air and good living of the little Wyalusing farm where Brenda enjoys a desk perched right out in the open air and Bash has ample space to cut grass, talk to himself, and break farm equipment.
Many of you have seen pictures of the farm including some of the resident 20 chickens (Barred Rocks, Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Delawares). These free-range girls (with no help from the sole rooster) have provided more than 125 dozen eggs that have been distributed to food pantries and shelters locally and in NYC. But this Spring, we’re sitting on the edge of our hay bales in anticipation of the work of not one, not two, but three broody hens and a potential clutch of Easter chicks!
I Feel Like Hatching Out Some Easter Chicks!
For the city-folk readers out there, a broody hen is a chicken that develops a passionate urge to sit on eggs and become a mother. She can be quite a sight to behold. She blows herself up, sits on her eggs as though in a trance, and defends her clutch with an I-mean-business growl and pecks. These broody hens began sitting in earnest on March 29th which means that 21 days from now, the Wyalusing HTC office should be a-chirpin’ with Easter chick joy. That’s April 19th, one day before Easter! So mark it on your calendar and keep your eyes glued to our Facebook page where we’ll be sure to post pictures of anything that comes ‘peeping’ out from underneath these hot-to-trot mamas. Happy Spring everybody!
